Hands and Arms Facial Aftercare: Care for the First 48 Hours
By Esthetics by Liliya Skin Spa | October 23, 2026
Right after your Beautiful Hands and Arms Facial, the most important rule is simple: keep the treated skin cool, clean, and protected from sun for 48 hours. In Mequon, that means lukewarm water, gentle products, and SPF on your hands and forearms even if you’re “just running out for a minute.” Those first two days are where you either lock in that soft, smooth feel or irritate the skin and lose the glow.
Quick reminder: This service is designed to address dryness, sun damage, and early signs of aging on hands and arms using cleansing, exfoliation, nourishing treatment steps, and hydration. Aftercare is what keeps that work looking fresh instead of feeling “undone” by heat, friction, or active ingredients.
0 to 48 hours: the do’s and don’ts that protect your result
For the first two days, I want you thinking: calm skin. A hands and arms facial often leaves you feeling smoother right away, but freshly treated skin can react if you hit it with heat, sweat, chlorine, or strong skincare too soon.
Do this right away
- Wash with lukewarm water only. Hot water can sting and trigger redness.
- Use a gentle cleanser (no scrubby beads, no exfoliating cloths).
- Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer after washing. Dry, tight skin is a sign you need more barrier support.
- SPF 30+ on hands and forearms every morning. Reapply after handwashing.
Avoid these for 48 hours
No heat, no heavy sweat: skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot baths, and heat treatments. Sweat plus heat can make skin feel itchy or blotchy.
No swimming: avoid pools, hot tubs, and Lake Michigan for 48 hours. Chlorine and lake water can be irritating on freshly treated skin.
No friction: hold off on gardening, deep cleaning, and dishwashing without gloves. If you have to do chores, lightweight gloves help a lot.
If you’re along the Port Washington Road corridor and you’re in and out of the car a lot, keep a small SPF in your bag or cup holder. In summer, Mequon sun plus lake reflection can sneak up on you fast.
Days 3 to 7: keep the smoothness, skip the “actives”
This is the week where people accidentally overdo it. Hands get washed all day, and it’s tempting to “fix” dryness by piling on anything strong. Don’t. I generally recommend you keep your hands and forearms on a mild routine for a full week unless your skin feels perfectly normal sooner.
Put these on pause for 5 to 7 days
- Retinol and prescription-style acne products on the treated area
- Strong acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic) and brightening blends that tingle
- Physical scrubs, pumice-style smoothing tools, and aggressive exfoliating mitts
Keep doing this all week
Moisturize after every wash, especially if you’re doing school drop-offs, errands, or cleaning on the weekend. And don’t forget SPF. If you’re walking the trails at Mequon Nature Preserve or spending time near the shoreline, reapply more often than you think you need to.
A lot of my long-time facial clients tell me they love seeing results immediately after services like lymphatic drainage or buccal work. Hands and arms care can feel just as instantly satisfying, but it holds better when you treat the first week like recovery, not “back to normal.”
The simple product lineup I want on your sink for hand facial aftercare
You don’t need a cabinet full of products to keep your hands and arms looking younger. You need a few things that you’ll actually use consistently, especially if you’re busy commuting through Mequon and juggling life.
My go-to basics (keep it boring for a week)
- Gentle cleanser: no fragrance, no exfoliating acids, no scrubs.
- Fragrance-free moisturizer: apply after every wash. At night, a thicker layer is fine.
- Broad-spectrum SPF 30+: hands and forearms every morning, and reapply after washing.
- Chore gloves: for dishwashing, cleaning products, gardening, and anything that strips your skin.
If you’re also doing regular facials or face treatment services with me, I’ll usually keep your hand and arm care in the same “calm and protective” lane. That’s how you get that consistent, healthy look without irritation.
If something feels off, reach out before you start experimenting
A little pinkness or mild sensitivity can happen, especially if your hands are already dry or you wash them constantly. What I don’t want is you trying five new products and guessing.
Do this first: stop actives, keep to gentle cleanser and moisturizer, and use a cool compress for 5 to 10 minutes.
Then reach out: if redness, swelling, or burning lasts longer than 48 hours, let me know. I’ll talk you through next steps so you don’t accidentally make it worse.

If you live in Thiensville, Grafton, Cedarburg, Fox Point, Brown Deer, or Milwaukee, I keep follow-ups simple and realistic. And if you’re a commuter on I-43 or you’re often near the River Club area, early morning or evening appointments along Port Washington Road tend to fit busy schedules best.
Beautiful Hands and Arms Facial in Mequon: quick details and how to keep it low-maintenance
This is a $60 service that brings professional skincare to hands and arms, the places that give away dryness and sun exposure fast. If you’re searching for facials close to me and you also want your hands to match your face, this is one of my favorite add-ons because the aftercare is straightforward. Cool, gentle, moisturized, protected.
And yes, I do a lot more than hands and arms. If you’re also exploring professional facial options, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, microneedling, microcurrent, or sculpting manual massage lifting facials including buccal, I’m happy to point you toward the right next step. People come to me for real results, not a one-time face treatment that fades in two days.
